AI created song banned from Sweden charts

AI generated music has already been with us for some time but it seems that unless its labeled as such the general listener (or in fact every one) cannot tell if the song has been made by AI or human.

Swedens most streamed weekly song right now is an AI generated artist known as Jacub. In 50 days Jacub has racked up 6,500,000 streams worth a staggering $19,500 to $32,500 USD

Journalist Emanuel Karlsten dug a little about this mystery artist with little to no social profile or upcoming tour dates and uncovered Jacub is a group of music executives connected to Stellar Music - two of which are in Stellars AI department. Stellar work!

In a long response the team at Stellar outlined their process for music creation has been misunderstood and there are bonafide song writers and music creators who make up Jacub. Its not just the press of a button from some anonymous AI bot that has made this popular tune.

When asked whether Jacub is a real person the answer though is a bit unsettling. "That depends how you define the term." - ok....

That response did not impress IFPI Sweden who manage the official music charts and they have banned it from any official music charts for the nation.

So is AI generation good or bad for music and the industry? Time will tell but at the moment until its clearly labeled we just will never know the difference it seems.
